Vehicles in German Town Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Police reported they were contacted by a individual who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.

An important representative commented the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
